Lake Erie possess more shipwrecks than any other place in the world. Project STEAR intends to identify, research, interpret and protect our underwater cultural resources. Through this process the Project will create curricula and hands-on learning opportunities designed specifically to promote math and science skills, environmental awareness and stewardship and to motivate and inspire youth through real scientific exploration.

Additionally, the Project staff and students will conduct underwater experiments and environmental monitoring and research that will assist in the stabilization of many fragile wrecks and provide valuable insights into Lake Erie's health and condition.

Project STEAR is a partnership between BCMS, Mercyhurst College, PA Sea Grant, Divers' World, Lakeshore Towing and Texas A&M Institute for Nautical Archeology.
