Honored at the National Migrant Education Conference
We just returned Thursday night from the annual Migrant Education Conference in Nashville. We were honored and very pleased that the Director of Migrant Education for the United States Department of Education, Lisa Ramirez, ED.D. attended our breakout session, Full STEAM Ahead, about the Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math infused into the curriculum and activities in the Bayfront Migrant IU5/ESD Summer School Program. She stayed for quite a while to learn more about our program. She spoke passionately about this innovative program to the entire conference gathered to hear her closing remarks. Dr. Ramirez is planning to visit Erie to see the school in action.

Over 400 educators, administrators and program partners from all across the United States gathered in Nashville to attend the National Migrant Education Conference.
The Pennsylvania Department of Education - Migrant Education, won the 2011 Excellence in Summer Learning Award from the Summer Learning Association in Baltimore.
This year, for the first time, the award focused on programs that integrate Science, Technology, Engineering and Math into their activities. The Bayfront Migrant IU5/ESD Summer Program played a significant role in the winning of this prestigious award.
