Curlew Launch 16 September 2011

The sailing vessel Curlew is being launched this afternoon at the Erie Yacht Club. Owner Bob Arlet has been working on her restoration at the Bayfront Maritime Center in between other projects for several years. Curlew is 37' overall and was built in Erie at Lund Boatworks in 1938.

Curlew has been owned through the years by a succession of Erie Yacht Club members. She has a long history of racing. She was built locally at Lund Boatworks, known around the Great Lakes for building high quality vessels.

Curlew's owner, Bob Arlet, was the shipwright for the Brig Niagara. He also is one of the owner/partners of the 1929, 55’ Alden Ketch, Dreamer, which he restored with local sailmaker extraordinaire, David Bierig.
