San Fransisco Pelican and Wooden Boat Magazine - Whats New at the Bayfront Center

February 12, 2010 | News & Events

BCMS is proud to be listed in the latest issue of Wooden Boat magazine, number 213 for March/April 2010, a highly acclaimed, nationally distributed publication detailing various projects, techniques, and events in the wooden boat community. We are listed on page 104, with a picture on page 105 of our students working on the San Fransisco Pelican.

The San Fransisco Pelican, a dory-pram designed for use in the rough waters of San Fransisco Bay, is the latest of our projects in the boat shop. Students from the Erie School District's Alternative Education Program, who are attending school at BCMS, are continuing the project, which was started in 2007. A new page on our site has been created to chronicle the construction process, and can be found on the San Fransisco Pelican page. Stay tuned to the page for further updates!

This picture, borrowed from boat maker Platypus Boats, shows the end product: A beautiful sailing boat, ready for the waters of Presque Isle Bay.
