Safe Boating Day at BCMS 6 June 2009
BCMS was the site of the Erie Safe Boating Day again this year. From 9 until noon boaters attended various workshops about boating safety issues including the use of Personal Floation Devices, fire fighting and prevention aboard a vessel, and the proper use of distress signals.

A lagrge group of boaters gathered in the BCMS boatshop as Mike Rinn demonstrated the proper maintenance and use of fire fighting equipment.
Several vessels were available for tours, from the United States Coast Guard, the Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, the West Lake Fire Department, and the Lawrence Park Volunteer Fire Department.

From the bridge of USCG 47241 you can see the Lawrence Park Volunteer Fire Department firefighting vessel, USCG Auxiliary Vessel Diver II, with a vessel check underway, and the Bayfront Center for Maritime Studies building in the background.

Personnel from the US Coast Guard, US Coast Guard Auxiliary, Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, Erie Power Squadron and other agencies gathered at BCMS to promote safe boating practices.
