BCMS Volunteer is Finalist for Woman of the Year Award
Sponsored by The Women's Roundtable, the 22nd Annual Woman of the Year award will be announced at a banquet on May 13th at the Bel-Aire Clarion Hotel and Conference Center. Kathy Lindell has been actively involved in the community as a volunteer for over thirty years. Her years of dedication have touched countless lives of special needs children and their families whether sailing in the EASE program at the Bayfront Center for Maritime Studies, horseback riding with the Therapeutic Riding Equestrian Center (TREC) or ice skating with the Gliding Stars program. Kathy always goes above and beyond by not only participating in these great programs but often serving in supervisory and coordinator roles, yet never taking the credit for the success of these organizations and events. This very special woman has an ability to pull everyone in to the relationship, networking with not only the students but reaching out to parents, siblings and care givers to create a community of support and caring.
During her 21 years of teaching, Kathy has become a true mentor for young professional women both in the special needs classrooms and as volunteers. Kathy accepts and trains four student teachers a year and has inspired dozens of young special needs teachers, including her own niece, Emily Boucher. Her daughter, Anna, has followed in her mother's footsteps by winning the Community Service Award for Mercyhurst Prep three years in a row.
Congratulations, Kathy! Thank you for all that you do. You are the best!
