Kids Glue Canoe Gunwale

It takes teamwork, cooperation, and a good crew to build a boat.
Kids in action! These boatbuilders scramble to clamp on a gunwale after applying the glue.

Five young boatbuilders take time off from their model making to glue a gunwale onto a canoe.
It took 51 clamps to secure the gunwale to the canoe. These kids mixed the epoxy, then applied the adhesive to the hull and the gunwale. They learned that teamwork and communication skills are needed while building a boat, just as much as carpentry! Several students took turns holding the piece in place while others set the C-clamps and spring clamps.

With the gunwale clamped in place, the kids clean off excess glue with putty knives.
After successfully installing the rail, the kids relaxed and enjoyed live banjo music as Ivan picked a tune.

Fingerpicking for the students after the work is finished.
