BCMS Maritime Training Simulator

Made possible through a grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission the 3 dimensional maritime training simulator will greatly expand BCMS' capabilities. The simulator consists of 5 monitors, 4 dedicated to the student and 1 for the instructor. An integrated digital projector allows additional classroom participation. Four computers drive the advanced graphics engine. The simulator will allow the instructor to create an endless amount of scenarios to train students. The simulator comes equipped with New York City and San Fransisco waters, both rich with visuals and aids to navigation. The Lake Erie Quadrangle centered on Presque Isle Bay is also included allowing us to train in local waters. Students will be able to virtually pilot a host of watercraft including sailing vessels, power vessels, and various commercial boats of all sizes including tankers, patrol boats, and many others.

The system will have a U.S. Coast Guard approved radar training simulation unit, allowing BCMS to add Radar Training to our list of maritime classes. The radar simulator works with ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display Information System) to provide sophisticated navigation training integrated with the visual simulation.

This simulator will allow virtual water access year round for our students, and state of the art training for members of the community. We at BCMS are extremely excited to receive this incredible equipment and would like to express our most sincere THANK YOU to everyone who helped make it possible.

Our kids loved the graphics, especially the weather simulator and ships appearing out of nowhere.
