Taco the Town

Taco the Town is BCMS' 34' racing catamaran, donated by David and Dianne Blake to BCMS in 2002. Taco the Town was entirely designed and built in Erie. Even the sails were made in Erie at Bierig Sails, by local sailmaker extraordinaire, Mr. David Bierig. Erieite, Mr. Paul Walkama, did a lot of the vessel's design. Taco the Town was built to race After a long and successful career racing the waters of Lake Erie, Taco the Town is now used to accommodate large groups for many of our summer programs. Because of its width (over 20 feet) Taco the Town is incredibly steady. It does not heel like a monohull sailboat does. Taco the Town has been used with all of our programs in the past including our Adaptive Sailing program, Erie Adaptive Sailing Program (EASE).

Used for thousands of years by Pacific Islanders, the catamaran design with it's two hulls, provides a fast, stable platform ideal for sailing. With a smaller underwater surface area, catamarans are among the fastest sailing boats found on the water today.
