Come aboard the Friendship Sloop, Momentum, for a sail on Presque Isle Bay. Water, plankton and sediment samples from the bottom of the bay are taken back to BCMS for further examination. Students collect a variety of macroinvertebrates while passing sediment samples through a sieve which are placed on slides. The organisms are then viewed under microscopes and identified.

Young scientists aboard the Friendship Sloop Momentum verify position with a GPS before collecting sediment samples.
Students who participate in this educational experience tend to be intrigued and inspired by our aquatic environment. Students who have an appreciation for the beauty and significance of the Lake Erie watershed generally become better stewards of their environment.
