2010 Cardboard Boat Regatta
On Saturday, September 11, 2010 BMC hosted Erie's first ever Cardboard Boat Regatta! This was the grand inauguration of an annual event. Fifteen entries, from as far away as Pittsburgh, came to the Erie bayfront to participate in this fun event that is open to everyone.

Larry won the crowd favorite award.
There were 2000 spectators cheering for the contestants.

Thousands of people watched the Cardboard Regatta from all around the East Canal Basin.
School groups, scout troops, community organizations, families, and businesses are encouraged to join in the fun by building a boat for the August 20th 2011 Regatta; it's not too early to begin planning.

Don't miss out next year. Jump in and join the fun. Get together with your friends and
build a boat, be a sponsor, paddle to win. We're expecting to double the fleet in 2011.

Flip Flops. Boat design is only limited by your imagination
We'll have another cardboard boat construction workshop in plenty of time before the regatta to show how easy it is to build a boat.

Steve Giewont led a cardboard boat construction workshop at BCMS. Steve's vessel , Puff, won the. Fastest Boat Award

A parade of contestants kicked off the festivities.

A parade of 15 cardboard boats went from BMC west across the Maritime Field, down State Street to Dobbins Landing, in front of the Maritime Museum and Blasco Library, and back to the Bayfront Maritime Center.
The Regatta took place the same weekend as the Erie Heritage Festival and Tall Ships Erie, making it a great weekend on the bayfront.

A HUGE THANK YOU to the Regatta Steering Committee, Steve and Debbie Giewont, and Kim Yamma for helping BMC make this event such a big success. Another HUGE THANK YOU to the other 22 volunteers who did everything from manning the safety boats to selling the T shirts; we couldn't have done it without you!
